She previously worked administratively in the fields of event production, public accounting and financial software. She holds a bachelor’s degree with honors in Materials Engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana and did partial graduate study at Northwestern University.

After working several years as an engineer, she spent over a decade as a singer, dancer and assistant choreographer in various Broadway musical theatre productions and North American touring companies.
